Komorebi (2020)

Watercolour on paper

These works were inspired by my regular walk in Sydenham Hill Wood and One Tree Hill. Spring and summer was beautiful time to be in the wood. I especially loved how light flickered through the trees and creating contrast of dark shadows and brightly lit space. The title “Komorebi” is a Japanese word referring to the sunlight beaming through trees. Inside the wood, it seems still and quiet but when you stop and pay attention, there are a lot of sounds : leaves rustling, branches falling off, squirrels running on trees, birds, dogs barking….
