“Gift of attention” 46 x 60cm
“The world is: fun, and familiar, and healthful, and unbelievably refreshing, and lovely. And it is the theater of the spiritual; it is the multiform utterly obedient to a mystery.”
- Mary Oliver, "Long Life: Essays and Other Writings", 2004.
Yuragi (state of flux) (2021)
Mixed media on paper, 46 x 60cm
Our life is always full of uncertainties but it seems that we live in an illusion of control with our special ability to reflect the past and predict the future. The pandemic has highlighted the uncertainties in our life. While I crave for certainty, the monotonous days under the restrictions made me long for chance encounters, serendipities, and mysteries. The natural world carried on as normal reminding me some things are certain - the earth keeps on revolving, the sun rises, the moon orbits around the earth, the season changes. But when I pay attention, it is full of wonders and mysteries. Catching a fleeting moment in nature really makes me happy. The beauty is in the state of flux. We are alive because we keep on changing - destroying, regenerating and passing a baton to the next in the cycle of life.
